Green Campus Day

WIT holds an annual Green Campus Day to promote sustainability awareness at home and at work. The Day kicks off with free green-tea and coffee for those who walk or cycle to campus (as part of the Smarter Travel Initiatives) – sustainable travellers just show their bicycle helmet or a selfie of them walking to campus or with their bike.

A wide range of stands and exhibitors display all matters ‘green’ related, and the Country Market also takes place on the day, with green smoothies on offer too. Advice is given on various energy saving initiatives with the Watt Bike Energy Challenge from the OPW providing a very challenging attraction for both students and staff. Exhibitors have included AIB bank, Chia Bia, Paddy O Granola, Rawky Health bars, and Keogh Crisps who provided numerous free samples and tasters of their various products. The Green Country Market was on hand offering an array of the superfood groups (and a few treats!!) with green smoothie shots being distributed by ‘Maggie the Leprechaun’ to help kick start the morning.

Students also got the chance to learn to bake bread with Chef Julie, those participating had the chance to win a free lunch. The staff social club sponsored a prize of a €50 voucher for Odeon Cinema to encourage staff and students to add an energy idea to the suggestions box and lots of great ideas were produced. The day concluded with the excellent WIT lunch time musician group playing a medley of traditional Irish music.
